On St. Patrick’s Day, a group of 35 St. Stephen’s youth and staff took a bus ride up to Pat’s Peak in Henniker, NH for a fun-filled day of Skiing and Snowboarding! We were joined by 7 YES (Youth Enrichment Services) Staff who served as our guides for the day. I was personally very excited to go to Pat’s peak, as it was the place I learned how to ski (I now snowboard) when I was 12 years old. After a relatively quiet ride up, the group patiently waited to get their ski and snowboard rentals from the Pat’s Peak staff. From there, we put our boots, gloves and hats on and headed over to the learning center. We were greeted by very enthusiastic Pat’s Peak ski school teachers who helped experienced skiers and riders brush up on their turns and beginners learn how to stop and do basic turns.
It turned out to be a wonderful day for spring skiing, as the sun was shining brightly throughout the morning and afternoon. Those skiers and riders who mastered the bunny slope made their way to ‘Whisper’ and ‘Puff’ trails. Others headed to the top of the mountain and took advantage of my favorite cruising trail, ‘Breeze-Zephyr-Blast’. In the afternoon, some of us went to the Turbulence Terrain Park to hit some of the jumps to get some ‘mad air’. A few face plants from yours truly aside, everyone had a very fun time and enjoyed the day.
In the end, everyone returned back to the lodge very tired, but satisfied with a wonderful day of skiing and riding. I truly had a great time and I can’t wait to go again next year!
